Jollyship
the Whiz-Bang has taken as its mission the conciliation of two
points: 1) that popular music and its surrounding culture and
industry is an immensely powerful force lacking in ideas and
2) that theater is a forum for ideas lacking in audience.
Jollyship the Whiz-Bang strives to realize an ideal multimedia experience as the juncture of these points.
Jollyship the Whiz-Bang is dedicated to exploring the nautical relationship between puppetry and rock music, including but not limiting itself to all things danceable, piratey, and grog related.
Jollyship the Whiz-Bang is the name of this group, as well as its core project: a live 10 part sea saga about pirates, developed gradually over many years. The components of this saga are performed as live episodes - stand-alone musicals in their own right, but which build sequentially to create the longest rock opera ever staged!
Jollyship the Whiz-Bang has been conceived as a not-for-profit organization until that time when they make a significant profit, at which time “thewhizbang.org” will become “thewhizbang.com.”
Jollyship the Whiz-Bang is a consortium of all those who participate in its productions: musicians, theater artists, sound, puppet and video designers, pyrotechnicians, writers, merch people, and wenches.
Jollyship the Whiz-Bang is spelled with no space between “Jolly” and “ship,” a dash between “Whiz” and “Bang” and a “the” between “Jollyship” and “Whiz-Bang.”
